Crevasse Rescue

Work as a team to rescue victims from a crevasse
  • Full Day
  • December – May
  • Chamonix
Description

Learn how to travel safely on glaciers; gaining skills to read terrain and identify hazards, use safety equipment, and perform crevasse rescue as a collective.
On this practical hands-on day you will learn, as a team, how to read glacial terrain to minimise crevasse risk, how to travel roped-up across glaciers either on foot or on skis, and how to carry out a crevasse rescue in a number of different realistic scenarios.
A big part of mountaineering is knowing your environment, managing the risks, and collaborating together to have a safe and enjoyable day in the mountains.
Good team communication, coordination, and cooperation are essential for a successful rescue!

Details

We will begin by looking at the terrain and assessing the weather and snow conditions to make decisions on where is safe to ski or walk.
Accompanied by one of our Chamex guides, your group will be lead onto a glacier and shown what to do in the event of a crevasse fall. What is your first response? How do you organise the rescue ? How do you work together calmly and effectively to manage the situation?
As well as equipping you all with the skills and knowledge you need to go on glacial terrain, this is a great exercise in developing communication and trust between members of your team, seeing how people react differently under pressure, and how quickly they are able to put an effective strategy into place.
Learn essential safety skills from expert mountain guides in an authentic alpine location
Practice transferable skills such as decision making, risk assessment, and communication
This activity can also take place in summer! June – October

Ski the Vallée Blanche

Ski the most famous off-piste ski descent in the world with your colleagues or friends: La Vallee Blanche
  • Full Day
  • January – March
  • Chamonix
Description

If you’re looking for a truly unique and memorable team building activity, staff incentive or impressive corporate entertainment then this will not disappoint. The highlight of your company ski trip will surely be the most famous off-piste ski run in the world, the mythical Vallée Blanche.
La Vallee Blanche goes from Aiguille du Midi at 3812m, via the spectacular Mer de Glace and finishes either in Chamonix or on the glacier at Montenvers.
Enjoy this amazing 23 km ride with your partners, colleagues and friends. From the moment you step out of the Aiguille du Midi ice tunnel onto the breath-taking ridge of the arete, you’ll be blown away by the stunning high mountain scenery. Even the most experienced off-piste skiers will be impressed by the awe-inspiring views of Mont Blanc, Mont Blanc du Tacul, Les Drus, and the Grandes Jorasses.
The descent winds its way down through the world-famous “white valley” past glistening crevasses, towering granite peaks and massive seracs, finishing up on France’s longest glacier – the Mer de Glace. If snow conditions allow, it is sometimes possible to ski all the way down to Chamonix via what us locals call the “James Bond Track”!

Details

Halfway down the glacier, you can even stop to enjoy a traditional meal at the Requin hut. The final descent follows relatively easy terrain down past the Mer de Glace glacier and the Montenvers train station where you can either take the train back to Chamonix or walk 20 minutes up to the Buvette des Mottets and then ski down a forest path back to Chamonix.
The Vallée Blanche is an entirely off-piste descent, with no groomed sections at all. The difficulty of the descent depends on the snow conditions; the snow can be nicely compacted giving similar skiing to that of a blue piste, however, there can also be deep powder snow or windblown crust, in which case you will have to have good off-piste skills to ride down safely.
Once you descend the Aiguille du Midi ridge you are committed to ski all the way down and, unless you have ski touring equipment, there is no possibility of turning back.
As a rule of thumb, if you are comfortable to ski black runs full of moguls, you can ski the Vallée Blanche in most conditions.
